| On Wednesday, July 18, 2012, a long-time family friend said that the government in this Country is the same as it always has been. I told her no that things are not the same as they used to be since she left these divided states. She was not aware that the Republican Party has changed so much, that even Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush would have an extremely difficult time with today's conservatives. It would be hard for either of them to receive support from today's Republican Party and hence, President Obama is experiencing a great deal of opposition. I reminded her that the Republicans fall in line - reporting to duty no matter the economic damage. Another difference to note is that previous Democrat presidents had more support within their own Party, but President Obama does not have many reliable advocates. Instead, there are too many of our government officials who are willing to support the Republican's main agenda: Making sure President Obama is a one term President. Things are NOT the same. I am not too cynical to believe things have changed for the better, but as a realist, they have gotten worse - thanks to the Republican Party aka The Tea Party and those that follow their manner of thinking. I never felt comfortable in saying that there is racism towards President Obama, as some will quickly declare, 'oh she's just playing the race card.' However, in September 2009, Jimmy Carter said Obama was facing such animosity due to the "color of his skin." In addition, Ron P. Reagan Jr. and others have stated that it is "blatant racism." Alternatively, racial hatred for President Barack Obama is not the main issue, but defines the sentiment of many. If anyone feels I am wrong, scroll down and read some of the derogatory statements said by some of our government officials and others, and then tell me I'm wrong. |
